[The Men of Justice] Opening Thoughts

August 13, 2010 | TV Blogging | 1 comment

Yes, I know I have not updated in AGES! And about a year ago, I had thoughts on writing again – but seen as though writing a “personal blog” is probably not my biggest strength, I thought I’d direct that energy to “entertainment writing” instead. This is the first time in a while that I had the urge to write about a series, most likely because it is G.O.O.D!! I feel I’m such a bad Fung fan by not watching “Growing Through Life” (at least not until after TMOJ anyway…) but at this point in time, almost half way through TMOJ, I’m addicted. I want to buy the DVDs already. The one-episode-a-day thing is killing me… (you get the drift).

So what is “The Men Of Justice” (法網群英)? It is an ATV (!!) series produced by Gary Tang – most notable for his work at TVB including “The File of Justice” series and “Healing Hands”. It stars Lawrence Ng, Amy Chan, Kenneth Chan, Pinky Cheung, William So, Jackie Lui and Joey Meng. (plus a host of other guest stars) Unfortunately most people in HK and overseas viewers don’t watch ATV these days, so the series hasn’t got much attention as yet. However, if you’re a fan of Gary’s work – this has to be seen! (It probably is more similar to “The File of Justice” – which ran for 5 seasons between 1992 and 1997.)

Despite my raves now about the series, originally, I had some doubts. Mostly for two reasons:

  • Gary Tang’s last series shown on ATV (Healing Hearts) was a flop. People have said it was rather boring.
  • The series finished filming around October 2008, so it took almost two years to be shown on TV.

The second point was more worrying since if it was any good, why hold onto it for so long? As for “Healing Hearts”, I actually caught a couple of episodes of it when I was last in HK, it was screening quite late on the HD channel and nothing else was on so I watched it…. and it was ok to me. But I have to declare now, that I do have a soft spot for Kenneth Chan, which is why I decided to watch it. ;)

Sometimes you just fall for it… I remember I only started watching “Criminal Minds” because I saw one scene with Matthew Gray Gubler (as Dr. Spencer Reid) on TV and totally loved it. Watched all 5 seasons then and can’t wait for S6 to start in fall now…
